With the success of Prada, the Italian designer founded Miu Miu in 1992. A younger brand, it highlighted more naïve, spontaneous looks, very much inspired by its founder even down to its name, which is is Miuccia's nickname. From 1994, it's been recognised by the industry, beginning with the Best Designer Award at the CFDAs. In 1995, the brand had its first runway show, in New York, featuring Kate Moss at the height of her celebrity. Then there were shows in London and Milan before becoming an official part of Paris Fashion Week in 2006. Muses of the brand, like Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hailey Stenfeld and Chloë Sevigny, are just as prestigious as those who represent Prada. The designer loves to surround herself with actresses who help highlight the brand's identity. Just as intellectual as Prada, Miu Miu has made its forays into the world of culture. Since 2012, the brand presents Women's Tales at the International Film Festival of Venice presenting short films, directed by women, bringing new, feminine perspectives to cinema. Some notable participants: Agnès Varda, Ana Duvernay, Chloë Sevigny, Zoe Cassavetes, Naomi Kawase and Dakota Fanning. In parallel to its women's collections, the brand also introduced a men's collection in 1999, an ode to fantasy for young men. The adventure came to an end in 2008 after almost a decade of success. With more than thirty years under its belt, Miu Miu continues to reign in the sphere of fashion, releasing cult items like the quilted hobo bag, patent leather ballet flats, pleated mini-skirt, and soft knit cardigan. This Italian brand embodies contemporary preppy style par excellence, offering up a feminine wardrobe for today.
