COWBOY BOOTS, FRINGES, BANDANAS...ALL DIRECTION POINT FAR WEST

By Amandine Rouhaud | November 29, 2022

Santiags, these boots are made for walkin'...

A far western American wind is blowing across the world of fashion. The Western universe inspires and fascinates. Cowboy boots, large-buckled belts, and fringes are on the runways. Let's zoom in on a trend that plunges us right into the 19th century.

While country music has, these last few years, found an audience with a younger generation, Western style has also, little by little, found its place in our wardrobes. The concept is simple: Getting inspiration from cowboys to add a Texan touch to the everyday.

Real leaders of the pack, cowboys relied on a sturdy wardrobe: cowboy boots, fringed jackets, denim, suede and Stetson hats. It's an immediately recognisable look. And it's this vision and this imaginary that inspires fashion lovers. Slowly, from head to toe, from easily approachable pieces to those that are more complex, the Western trend has made its mark on the runway.

COWBOY BOOTS: DALLAS CHIC

Whether on the feed of Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski or the it girls of the moment, the cowboy boot is the uncontested footwear champion of late. The ultimate symbol of the cowboy era, it comes in many forms. Originally, the structure of the boot was made to serve the cowboy: Its iconic beveled heal and pointy toe were designed to fit into a stirrup. Today, it's particular aesthetic appeals to fashion lovers.

In 2022, many miles away from the Far West, the cowboy boot is an uncontested fashion essential. If we've seen it often at festivals, as a way to play with a more serious look, it's now sported in a more natural way. Whether low (a cowboy heresy) or high, whether more serious or more bold, the cowboy boot is a real statement piece, which, paradoxically, is easy to wear!

FRINGE: LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT

Originally, fringes on clothing had a technical purpose. Some sources say that fringes allowed clothing to dry more quickly after getting wet in the rain. Now, they're a little extra detail.

Today, trends mix and styles blend: Fringed blazers, for example, shake up a traditional, chic look. And fringes come in many (bright) colours!

JEAN TONIC

An eternal classic, denim goes perfectly with the Wild West, whether as a jacket, shirt, trouser, or even, a full cowboy look. Men's wardrobes are more relaxed with a typical Western shirt, its silhouette defined by shoulder inserts and chest pockets. The Gant X Wrangler collaboration proves the point, illustrating the marvel of the classic Western button down.

THE DETAILS MAKE THE COWBOY

To accessorise your look with cowboy touches, bet on the scarf, an essential item for playing Billy the Kid. Try silk or cashmere. Whatever the material as long as it takes you westward!
