To tell the extraordinary story of Trudon, we must travel back to 1643. The story begins in Paris, on the rue Saint Honoré where Claude Trudon set up a boutique in which he developed his activity as grocer and candlemaker. He made candles destined to provide light for houses as well as those for parishes, and thus his success story began. His son Jacques inherited the business, making his way into the court of Versailles as an apothecary-distiller for the Queen Marie-Thérèse of Austria. At the beginning of the 18th century, the Maison introduced its motto "Deo, Regique Laborant", which, translated from the Latin means, "the bees working for god and the king", highlighting the use of beeswax for the fabrication of candles. In 1737, Trudon bought the Manufacture Royale des Cires (The Royal Factory of Wax) in Antony, a Parisian suburb, and during the reign of Louis XV, became the official candle supplier of the French court and of the monarchy's most important churches. The Emperor Napoleon I welcomed the birth of his son Aiglon with a unique gift: a Trudon candle in his effigy encrusted with three pieces of gold, attesting to the prestige of the Maison. Neither the Revolution nor the advent of household electricity dethroned Trudon whose flame seems to burn even brighter over time. In 1889, it was awarded the gold medal at the Exposition Universelle de Paris for the quality and innovation of its candles. Its secret? Traditional savoir-faire blended with modern technology for perfect combustion and intense, even fragrance.
