An unexpected meeting about 30 years ago catalysed Jeremy Moon's career when he was just 24: with a merino sheep farmer on the island of Pohenui in New Zealand. At a time when synthetic fibres reined in the textile industry, especially for outerwear - this was 1994 - the young Jeremy Moon was astounded by the quality, beauty and ingeniousness of merino wool. With only a cent in his pockets, he set out to integrate natural solutions and materials into technical clothing and never gave up on his obsession. It was not only a quest for an unrivalled fresh-air experience that inspired the founder of Icebreaker, it was also as a defending pioneer of the future of our planet and of our environment that he persisted in finding countermeasures to the widespread use of synthetics. From 1996, he launched the first techno-natural revolution of the brand Icebreaker: a system of modular layers, all composed of merino wool, consisting of undergarments, base layers, middle layers and outer layers with an unparalleled heat-to-weight ratio, contributing together to incomparable comfort and easily adapting to any kind of weather. Always evolving alongside his partner sheep farmers selected for their impeccable environmental and animal ethics, and delivering pieces that are as elegant as they are versatile and performing, the brand convinced the whole world from the early 2000s. In 2005, it expanded its range to hats, socks, scarfs and gloves in order to respond to growing demand. One year later, the American subsidiary of Icebreaker was born. Innovations and demands in terms of traceability followed, from the integration of a "Baacode" to all the products, which indicated the provenance of the wool, to the invention of corespon, an ultra-resistant fabric where wool is spun around nylon thread by way of the material Cool-Lite™, or an alternate down for puffy coats: the insulating, breathable system MerinoLOFT™. Today more than ever, Icebreaker is ahead of the curve, placing innovation and durability at the heart of its philosophy.
