      Gucci Women
The Gucci woman has always had a unique style. Since the brand's founding in 1921, the Florentine label has made a point of offering creations that are both refined and saturated in high-octane hues. Initially specialized in equestrian-inspired accessories, the collections expanded to a wider public throughout the 20th century. So much so, in fact, that by the end of the Second World War, the house's most iconic designs were already in production, such as the Web belt with the double G buckle. By mid-century, the Gucci woman could add a host of choice accessories to her wardrobe: the Bamboo bag, first of all, with its bamboo handles as a clever alternative to leather (often difficult to come by during the war). Plus, there was the Jackie bag, thus re-named after the future First Lady of the United States was seen sporting it. And who could forget the Flora print, designed especially to thank Princess Grace of Monaco for buying a handbag and permitting the creator to customize it. It wasn't until 1981, however, that Gucci presented its first women's ready-to-wear line, and 1990, when Tom Ford would join the illustrious team of creatives. Four years later, he would take the reins and inaugurate the beginning of a real golden era for the company and during which Gucci would become synonymous with sensuality and opulence. Upon his departure in 2000, he was succeeded by Alessandra Facchinetti, followed by Frida Gianini in 2005. But it was in 2015 that Alessandro Michele, Rome-born and head of accessories in-house for 12 years, was named as Creative Director and restored the label to its glory. Under his direction, Gucci's women's pieces have gotten quirkier, sharper, and have drawn a new audience. Ace sneakers, Jordaan loafers, the Horsebit bag and floral-print dresses are amongst the latest hits — and so many ways to add a kick to one's step.
