Benjamin Benmoyal Women

At just 30 years old, Benjamin Benmoyal finds himself at the head of the eponymous label he founded in 2020. Following his career as a parachute commando, the Franco-Israeli switched gears to the fashion industry, studying at London's prestigious Central Saint-Martins. During those six years of research, he chose to explore prospects formerly unimagined and came to create a fabric made of VHS casette tapes. Taking two years of sabbatical to develop the new material, he also began to hew his place at prestigious couture houses. Working for labels like McQueen and Hermès, the young couturier decided to launch his own brand and construct a wardrobe entirely constructed from recycled tapes. He presented the fruits of his labor at Paris Fashion Week in March 2021. Featuring explosive colours, futuristic models, extravagant volumes and asymmetrical cuts, Benmoyal's work is saturated with poetry and fantasy. Born to a Moroccan father and an Egyptian mother, the creative draws inspiration from his roots in the form of traditional Maghrebian outfits like the haïk, a women's garment consisting of a rectangular fabric covering the whole body, rolled and held by a belt at the waist. And the pièce-de-résistance? A long dress made from over 4000 cotton threads surrounding the silhouette. Here we find collections that appeal equally to industry personalities and the wider public. With a philosophy of environmental engagement, the label is a mirror of a nostalgic generation in the midst of a collective interrogation of the future.
