Wonder Woman, a Modern Super-Heroine

Almost 80 years after her creation, Wonder Woman, the first ever super-heroine, is still beloved by audiences around the world for her role as a modern warrior, a cross between a pin-up girl and an Amazon. A guiding light in feminist and LGBTQ+ movements, a new Miu Miu capsule collection puts this pop icon front and center.

In Patty Jenkins' second installment of Wonder Woman 1984, coming to cinemas this December and starring Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot, Princess Diana of Themyscira hasn't aged a bit. Miu Miu sings her praises in a capsule collection in which the mythical DC Comics heroine poses as both pin-up and Olympian athlete, all while battling a dinosaur.

Since her creation in 1941 by American psychologist William Moulton Marston, Wonder Woman has been seen as the embodiment of a truly badass feminist figure. At the time, she was the first heroine to grace the pages of graphic novels, appearing alongside Batman and Superman. Promoting the archetype of a strong, courageous, and liberated woman, the character takes inspiration from then-First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, actress Betty Grable, and most of all activist Margaret Sanger, who fought for freedom of speech and the right to contraception. Since then, Wonder Woman has become an essential feminist figure and is likewise adored by the LGBTQ+ community, notably in Lynda Carter's incarnation of her in the eponymous American television series of the 1970s.

Still today, her legacy has an extraordinary impact on popular culture, and continues to inspire creatives across the board. Batman and Superman had better watch out.
