You've heard of fast fashion and here is a fast designer. With his talent and vision landing him roles everywhere, Richard Quinn has been climbing quickly to the top in a matter of years. A South-East London native, the designer was scouted by the industry from the very beginning and hasn't stopped receiving praise since. Trained in Central Saint Martins, he caught the eye of Stella McCartney in his very first year and was offered a scholarship. With his degree in the bag, he continued to make waves, winning the H&M Design Award in 2019. The prize won him recognition and gave him a grant allowing him to open a digital print studio in partnership with Epson in Peckham, close to where he grew up. Now able to create his own prints and design his best work yet, he was awarded the NewGen prize by the British Fashion Council in 2017. His biggest achievement came a few months later. In February 2018, building on the success of his last accolade, he was invited to officially present his Autumn-Winter 2018 collection at London Fashion Week. He was chosen by Queen Elizabeth II for another prize: the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. The monarch was attending a fashion show for the first time in her reign, sitting in the front row next to Anna Wintour. The already popular Richard Quinn instantly became a household name. His striking designs, mixing floral prints, dots, various fabrics and daring drapes, were seen on every red carpet. In May, Amal Clooney chose him to dress her while she co-chaired the Met Gala. In December, he received the British Emerging Talent Womenswear Award at the British Fashion Awards.
Richard Quinn's original and captivating fashion collections aim to be extravagant, yet sustainable and inclusive. As well as producing his own prints, he also rents out his studio to other design houses (such as Burberry and JW Anderson) and to design students. While his creations are printed in India, the rest of his garments are made in the United Kingdom. It's a remarkable and forward-thinking fashion brand.
