In addition to its wealth of minerals, Venezuela is also enriched with talent. Aliita, Constanza Oquendo, Nayibe Warchausky... and Monica Sordo to name just a few. Spending her childhood in Caracas, surrounded by metal in her father's industrial workshop, the designer decided to leave for Europe. Interested in fashion, she trained in Fashion Design in Milan at the famous Istituto Marangoni. She then went to Madrid and graduated in Merchandising at the Istituto Europeo di Design. In the meantime, discovering her passion for jewellery, Monica Sordo finished her studies with a jewellery design course at the Gemological Institute of America in New York.
Several years later, she launched her self-titled brand. Upon graduating, she was recruited by the Spanish edition of Marie-Claire magazine, where she was a Fashion Editor for several years. She then moved into communications and spent two years in public relations for the Christian Louboutin label. At the same time, she lectured at the Istituto Europeo de Design.
In 2016, with this solid background (knowing how to promote a line and what the media is looking for), she finally felt ready to launch her own brand. Made in Lima, Peru, Monica Sordo jewellery combines craft elements with architectural references that greatly influence the designer. Eager to celebrate women, she also draws inspiration from mythology and history to create elegant yet powerful pieces worthy of today's woman. In addition to being a jewellery designer, Monica Sordo is also involved in artistic projects. For the past few years, she has notably managed the curation of designers at the MATE, a cultural foundation set up by Peruvian photographer, Mario Testino.
