Enchanted by Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, Rosh Mahtani dedicated her jewellery label to him, launching the brand in 2014. Through her pieces, she recounts the cathartic journey from Hell to Purgatory, all the way to Heaven. Captivated by the story's multi-layered quality, which subtly addresses the most fundamental of feelings such as betrayal, courage, fear and envy, the future designer discovered a resonance with her own life and sought to highlight the dark and sincere beauty of this work. While studying French and Italian literature at the University of Oxford, she discovered the collection of poems, inspiring her to tell their tales through Alighieri's gold-laden designs.
Even as a child, the young woman collected shells and pebbles. As a teenager, she would go to flea markets in search of old coins and antique treasures, transforming them into pendants. Yet, it was somewhat by chance that Rosh Mahtani began designing jewellery after graduating. A 'happy accident,' to use her own words, perfectly reflecting the imperfect charm and the intuitive, surprising spirit that defines the Alighieri label's DNA. Handcrafted in the Hatten Garden studios in London, her collections are infused with melancholy, featuring solar medallions, mismatched earrings embellished with Baroque pearls, and bracelets with Venetian coin insets made from 24-carat gold-plated bronze. Finishes are deliberately undefined with curvaceous lines, blurred and abstract portrayals of creatures and landscapes drawn from Dante's abyss. Akin to modern-day talismans, each model refers to one of the Italian writer's poems, taking you on your very own adventure. The bestseller?
