DISCOVER 2023'S BACK-TO-SCHOOL TRENDS
By Amandine Rouhaud | August 14, 2023
What are the back-to-school trends of 2023? We're taking you on a tour of the pieces you need now.
Since childhood, back-to-school season has been the opportunity to make a fresh fashion start. Remember the feeling of facing the first day of school in a whole new outfit, in a pair of shoes not yet broken in, and a shiny new backpack? Tap into that feeling with a wardrobe makeover. Choose from our line-up of the trends!
A major trend of this 2023 back-to-school season? Streetwear with a pinch of futurism. City classics (bombers, shoulder bags) are redesigned in hybrid mode, both functional and transformable. It's the wardrobe of a generation that's questioning norms and making its own rules. Classic jean jackets are cropped, waistlines have dropped and inseams are lengthened. It's all punctuated with brightly-coloured accessories evoking the metaverse aesthetic.
Aiming for bold simplicity? For this back-to-school season, less is more, with timeless pieces updated with a little something extra: serious tailoring, unexpected proportions, generous silhouettes and impactful details: high neck, slits, bell sleeves...you decide!
The iconic choice? Knitwear in bright colours with bold details, like a deep V, a statement zipper, or ornamental buttons.
Whether as a full look or in a key piece, black is back for the season. On the menu: high-drama couture silhouettes on the runway at Balenciaga Fall-Winter 2023/2024 in all black, for an alluring 90s club kid-meets-rock n roll vibe.
The cult fabrics in play? Leather, silk and vinyl.
For the 2023 back-to-school season, a major trend is coming into focus, one of organised chaos: a casual, liberated wardrobe of excess and decadence. Shine a little light on the disorder with bright colours, clashing patterns and graphic details for all your layers.
On the agenda: frilly dresses, cut outs, exaggerated necklines, unexpected straps, twists that break the silhouette, and statement colours.
The top trend of the movement: The deconstructed dress. The idea? Dramatic, plunging necklines for a more hybrid look than ever before. Shirt and jacket meet at Moschino where front and back are inverted, and a removable strap transforms silhouettes at Courrèges.
The second trend draws its riches from the most colourful pantone shades, like at Valentino, for example. Whatever the colour, from saturated pink and green to electric blue, make it vibrant. Going unnoticed is definitely not one of this back-to-school season's goals. Bet on a wardrobe with saturated colours to hit the mark.
