Having noticed the luxury bags carried by wealthy clients at the London hotel where he worked as a doorman, Guccio Gucci decided to launch his own brand of leather goods. Back in Italy, he founded the Gucci Fashion House in 1921. Among the label's quintessential symbols are the horsebit¿-¿a nod to the horseback riding enthusiasts it originally catered to¿-¿the Double G monogram and the famous Web Band.
When the great stylist passed away in 1953, his three sons¿-¿Aldo, Vasco, and Rodolfo¿-¿took over the Fashion House. Long since renowned for its accessories, the brand launched its first ready-to-wear collection in the 1980s. The following decade, Tom Ford stepped into artistic direction and propelled Gucci into its Porno Chic era. In 2015, the immensely talented and creative Alessandro Michele succeeded him as head of the Florence label. Under his guidance, Gucci carried its avant-garde flair into the world of genderless and fur-free fashion.
One of the Italian Fashion House's best-sellers is the GG Marmont leather bag collection. Now known for its emblematic style, the Marmont bag comes in a variety of shapes and sizes ranging from the medium-sized women's shoulder bag and camera bag, down to the rectangular mini flap bag with chain strap and the minimalist round micro bag.
We love the quilted leather Gucci's black women's bag set off by a gold metal monogram as an understated and elegant everyday bag. To liven up a look, we simply adore it as a multicolored leather bag with a silver metal Double G.
Gucci is considered the pinnacle of craftmanship. The Italian brand's ancestral know-how is at the heart of its success. Staggeringly chic, the GG monogrammed canvas bags of the Ophidia GG Supreme collection are adorned with the iconic Web Band and gold metal Double G.
For more sparkle, the Dionysus handbag has an exquisite horseshoe-shaped tiger head closure encrusted with Swarovski crystals. The embellishment is a subtle callback to Gucci's affection for the equestrian world, much like the Horsebit on the brand's eponymous bags.
