In 1898, Charles Bonnardel, famed leatherworker, along with Francisque Bornex, a tanner, had one idea: to create a brand of high-quality leather goods. For the time, this was a bold proposition, but together, the two entrepreneurs were able to carry it off, founding Le Tanneur and releasing their very first product the "Seamless" wallet, an iconic model that has seen major success. In 1900, at the Universal Expo of Paris, it won the Silver Medal. Then in 1914, Le Tanneur was chosen by the French Army for its supply of quality bags, straps, boots, gaiters and leggings. Over the years, the brand grew into one of the country's most reputed leather goods brands. In the 1980s, Le Tanneur unveiled its school collection called TANN's and then in 1987, a sporty lined called Roland-Garros, made with canvas and leather. In 2006, Le Tanneur continued its flight, collaborating with Air France on a collection of exclusive limited-edition luggage. Attached to heritage and traditions, the brand produces all of its bags and accessories in ateliers in the Loire region and makes its products with the best quality "full-grain" leather. In 2023, Le Tanneur celebrated its 125th anniversary and for the occasion, displayed its archival collections in their Paris showroom. In November 2021, the brand launched its "From hand to hand" program, allowing customers to repair or recycle their Le Tanneur items. The pieces are timeless, elegant, sustainable and minimalist, reflecting the brand's values which are embodied by brand muse, the French model and stylist Inès de Fressange. Among their iconic products for men, there's the Alexis backpack, the Gaspard shoulder bag and the Emile document case. For women, there's the best-selling Emilie handbag as well as the leather Sophie wallet and the practical Louise tote.
